Inactive–NMSAIGE serves to promote a greater understanding of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender issues among members of the counseling professions. As an organization, we work to improve standards and delivery of counseling services provided to the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender population; identify and work to eliminate conditions that create barriers to the development of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender/transsexual individuals; develop, implement, and/or foster interest in charitable, scientific, and educational programs designed to further the interests of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender populations; secure equality of treatment, advancement, and status of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people in counseling and development work; and to facilitate broader awareness of issues in counseling gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people among the helping professions.

NMCA has created a special interest group to continue to have a space for NMSAIGE and other inactive divisions to thrive and meet the needs of New Mexico Counselors and those we serve.
