NMCA is committed to promoting the interests and ensuring the professional integrity of its members and the counseling profession at large through actively seeking and supporting favorable state and federal legislation. NMCA actively works on legislative and public policy issues that matter to our members. Priorities include GRT deductions, the Counseling Compact, and increased funding for mental health care.

-New Mexico has passed a law that prohibits cost-sharing permanent for most fully insured plans in the state, effective January 1, 2026. This law applies to behavioral health services and medications under most in-network private health plans in the state, which means copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles will no longer be applied to these services.
